Course Details

Course Description

This course provides a clinical overview of the elder and dependent adult abuse and neglect reporting law, and the psychosocial conditions it is designed to address. Focusing on the elder adult aspect of the law, the content explores and identifies mandated reporters, along with the requirements for reporting elder abuse and neglect. The mandated categories of elder abuse are discussed, along with the warning signs of each type of abuse. Other topics include, but are not limited to, theories related to the causation of elder abuse and neglect, the incidence of intimate partner violence (IPV) in later life, and strategies for preventing abuse and neglect. Case vignettes, web-based video clips, and related resources are incorporated into the online content. The online posttest must be passed with a score of 80% or better to print a certificate of completion.

Target Audience

This course can be used toward the pre-license requirement of 10 hours of coursework in aging and long-term care for California licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT), and licensed professional clinical counselor (LPCC) licenses. It can also be used as continuing education units (CEUs) for California licensed behavioral health practitioners, as well as professional development for non-licensed social workers.
