Course Description

This brief course reviews key concepts and practice principles of dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). The content addresses the philosophy, techniques, and method of DBT; DBT research findings; and case documentation that reflects use of DBT. To complete the course, participants read online content that incorporates a case vignette, an exercise based on the case vignette, and two short web-based video clips. The online posttest must be passed with a score of 80% or better to print a certificate of completion.

Target Audience

This information is relevant to psychotherapists at all levels of experience who wish a better understanding of the strategies and techniques of dialectical behavior therapy and how to demonstrate its use in clinical documentation.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, readers will be able to do the following:

  • Distinguish the method of dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) from simply using some of the many techniques that DBT has borrowed from other methods.
  • Identify intervention principles of DBT.
  • Write clinical documentation that demonstrates proper use of DBT.
