Course Description

This is the fifth and final module in a five-part series related to intimate partner violence (IPV), also referred to as spousal/partner abuse (SPA) and domestic violence (DV). Within the series, this final module discusses IPV among specific populations including communities of color, the elderly, individuals with disabilities, LGBTQ communities, military and law enforcement communities, and immigrant communities. There is also a section that highlights the effects of the worldwide stay at home orders (in response to the public health crisis) on rates of IPV. This module incorporates online content, case vignettes, web-based video clips, and related resources.

Target Audience

California Mandated Pre-License Requirement: All five modules in the series can be used to meet the 15-hour pre-license requirement for coursework in spousal/partner abuse assessment and detection for California LCSW, LMFT, and LPCC licenses.

Continuing Education and Professional Development: This module can be taken alone or in combination with any of the other four modules in the five-part series as continuing education or professional development.

Learning Objectives

After completion of this course, readers will be able to do the following:

• Identify key factors that impact victims reporting intimate partner violence (IPV).
• Identify factors related to male victims of IPV.
• Identify factors related to IPV within specific populations, such as women of color, elderly, individuals with disabilities, and women experiencing homelessness, and within lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) relationships.
• Identify factors related to IPV within military and law enforcement communities.
• Identify factors and laws related to IPV within immigrant communities.
